(PTTMCC), a leading producer in bio-based polybutylene succinate (BioPBS™), delighted to announces a landmark collaboration with Nordic Bioproducts Group (NBG), a cellulosic fibers producer. This strategic partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signifies a leap forward in advancing bioplastic technology.

Driven by a shared vision for sustainability, PTTMCC and NBG aim to revolutionize the performance and compostability of bioplastics. By harnessing Nordic Bioproducts Group’s AaltoCell™ Technology, The collaboration will explore the use case of integrating of NBG's cellulosic fibers and BioPBS™, aiming to elevate the quality and eco-friendliness of bioplastic solutions.

The focus of this collaboration is on developing next-generation bioplastics that not only deliver superior performance but also maintain home compostability and biodegradability. Through intensive research and development, the partnership aims to enhance the heat resistance and home compostable solution for single-use products, such as coffee capsules, cutlery, and containers, catering to the expanding market demands.

With the global coffee capsule market projected to reach USD 11.9 billion by 2032, there is a pressing need for sustainable alternatives. The rise of compostable coffee capsules reflects a growing consumer awareness of environmental impact, particularly concerning the disposal of traditional aluminum capsules. This trend underscores the importance of innovative solutions that mitigate waste and promote circular economy practices.

Incorporating BioPBS and NBG’s activated cellulose fibers, the product meets strict food container safety regulations while maintaining uncompromising quality and purity. Additionally, it offers the perfect solution for the growing industry by achieving high bio-based content, enabling penetration into new markets where petroleum-based plastic products have dominated.
